Comanche brings big bang for a buck with new Tellabs Ethernet switch NAPERVILLE, Ill., July 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Comanche County Telephone Company had a challenge: it needed to resolve bottlenecks in the access part of its network. To do that, the provider, which services customers in Texas and Oklahoma, improved its network with a new cost-efficient and future-proof solution from Tellabs. With the solution, Comanche can aggregate its traffic and lower the number of network connections while providing customers with high-speed services, all in a cost-efficient way. Without breaking the bank on costly upgrades, Comanche selected the Tellabs(R) Carrier Ethernet solution, part of Tellabs(R) Business Services solutions, to do the job. The provider deployed the new Tellabs(R) 7345 Ethernet Aggregation Switch from Tellabs' line of Metro Ethernet Switching products that help deliver Carrier Ethernet services. The Tellabs 7345 switch fits in a small space while providing an upgrade path. "We needed to deliver reliable high-speed services to our residential and business customers, while cost-efficiently managing our network traffic," said Steve Baker, Director of Network Operations at Comanche. "Tellabs enabled us to resolve our challenge while saving costs." A penny saved is a penny earned Comanche has an established base of the Tellabs(R) 1000 and the Tellabs(R) 1150 Multiservice Access Platforms. The provider took advantage of the end-to-end IP architecture on the Tellabs access platforms and installed Gigabit Ethernet uplinks to aggregate its traffic. This solution eliminated the need for expensive overlays. "By adding the Tellabs 7345 switch, Comanche eliminated potential interoperability issues," said Chuck Bernstein, Vice President, North America Sales, at Tellabs. "The new platform works with the current network, saving time and money on training and testing." Tellabs' new line of Metro Ethernet Switching products offers Carrier Ethernet for any size project including DSLAM aggregation and wireless backhaul applications. The solution brings redundant architecture and enables operators such as Comanche to increase service resiliency and simplify operations cost-efficiently.
