Swiss Technical Universities - HES and California Universities Expand Their Joint Program Summer University 2009 SAN FRANCISCO, July 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This summer, for the third consecutive year, Swiss and Californian universities are offering joint summer programs that allow Swiss, American and international students to study abroad in Switzerland or California. Students from participating universities Humboldt State, San Jose State, and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo have the opportunity to study at the technical universities Hautes Ecoles Specialisees (HES) throughout Switzerland. Classes offered include subjects as diverse as health, technology, leadership and entrepreneurship, oenology, and sociology. The summer university program gives students the opportunity to live in a foreign country and explore a wider field of study. Classes at HES will be taught in English, thus allowing students without strong French-speaking skills to attend and experience Swiss culture. Anne-Catherine Lyon, state councillor in charge of the Department of Education, Youth and Culture, initiated the program and will be visiting the participating California universities with a Swiss delegation including directors of Swiss universities. The delegation will meet with professors and administrators from July 11-18 to discuss adding new fields of study such as art and music and potentially expanding the collaboration to include a Masters degree program, a faculty exchange program, joint research programs, and a business start-up program, which will guide students through the transition from the academic to the professional world.
