LOS ANGELES, July 7, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- KB Home (NYSE:KBH), one of
America's premier homebuilders, today announced that every new KB home will
include Carrier programmable thermostats as a standard feature. These
thermostats provide cutting-edge control capabilities for maximum performance
and increased energy efficiency. Energy costs associated with heating and
cooling a home can account for up to half of an average household's utility
bills, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA
estimates that homeowners can save about $180 each year by properly setting
their programmable thermostats and maintaining those settings.
In addition to including Carrier programmable thermostats as a standard feature,
KB Home has also committed to use Puron(r) refrigerant HVAC systems by Carrier
in all its new homes nationwide. Puron is environmentally sound and does not
deplete the ozone layer. KB Home has taken these actions as part of the
Company's My Home. My Earth.(r) program, which offers new homebuyers
money-saving environmentally friendly features, options and education.
"These world-class products by Carrier add to the growing list of
environmentally friendly features that are in every new KB home," said Jeffrey
Mezger, president and CEO of KB Home. "Homebuyers are looking to reduce their
carbon footprint and lower the cost to operate their homes without sacrificing
beauty or functionality, and our My Home. My Earth. initiative helps them do
just that."
"We're pleased that thousands of KB Home customers across the country will enjoy
the many benefits of quality Carrier systems: for their homes, for the
environment and to help reduce their cost of home ownership," said Bob
McDonough, president, Residential & Light Commercial Systems, Carrier
Corporation. "We share KB Home's vision for a sustainable future."
