Federal Government. The event, lead by Theresa Lee, president of TecAccess,
and LaMondre Pough, business development manager and radio personality, will
be held July 23, 2009 at 2pm EDT.
Participants of the webcast will effectively target:
-- Top methods that successful federal vendors use to win business with
the
government
-- How all organizations can take advantage of the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act through accessibility compliance
-- Importance of VPATs
-- BuyAccessible Wizard and the BuyAccessible Product and Services
Directory
"Industry analysts expect that the buying power of people with disabilities
will quickly exceed the $1 trillion mark in the years ahead, much of this
spent on technology and using the online environment to make purchases,"
explained co-presenter, Theresa Lee. The compelling evidence of the purchasing
power of this market segment makes it clear that businesses need to conduct
operations, including web design, in ways that will attract customers with
disabilities to their goods and services. "An inclusive and universal design
approach to technology is critical to both federal agencies and private
industry wishing to anticipate future needs of this growing population, an
untapped market that is fast becoming a prized consumer niche," said LaMondre
Pough.
Section 508 requires technology that is developed or purchased by the federal
government is accessible by people with disabilities. Although Section 508
refers to technology that is developed or purchased by the federal government,
accessibility is quickly becoming an important mandate in the private sector
as well. Companies that have responded to this growing consumer base - which
includes Baby Boomers - have developed greater market share.
Successful businesses know that to increase sales with the federal market it
is critical to comply to Section 508. As an example, the recent stimulus bill
has placed accessibility as a critical component for federal agencies
responsible for spending and distributing stimulus funds, as well as federal
vendors hoping to do business with the government. It will be critical that
these agencies and funding recipients comply with all applicable laws,
including those protecting the rights of people with disabilities.
