DEARBORN, MI, Jul 07 (MARKET WIRE) --
Local residents, businesses and visitors to Dearborn are encouraged to
reserve Friday evenings to attend a free outdoor mini-concert series
sponsored by the West Dearborn Downtown Development Authority (WDDDA).
The first concert, featuring Carl Cafanga & Friends, will be held from 6
p.m. to 8:15 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2009 in Michigan Avenue's "Pocket
Park," located between Mason and Monroe Avenues in west Dearborn.
Carl Cafanga is one of metro Detroit's most in-demand saxophonists. His
quartet plays soulful, smooth jazz and will feature Ashaki, a female
vocalist, jazz artist and native Detroiter who has performed nationally
and in Japan.
Four additional concerts will be held in the Muirhead Plaza adjacent to
the Bryant Library on Michigan Avenue, featuring the versatile cover band
Radio Active from 6 to 9 p.m. on July 24; Motor City music veterans Merge,
performing musical hits from the 1950s to contemporary, from 6 to 9 p.m.
on August 14; Cleary Quartet from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on August 21; and
Thornetta Davis, recognized for her exceptional blues vocal performances,
from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on August 28, 2009.
The WDDDA recommends that concert-goers bring chairs and blankets for
outdoor seating while they relax and enjoy the music.
