STOCKHOLM, July 9 (Reuters) - Sweden's government said on Thursday it has decided to extend its capital injection programme for banks and credit institutions to February 2010.

"Even though the financial markets are improving, the impact of the financial crisis is still evident. The government is keen for households and companies to be able to borrow at reasonable conditions and therefore believes that previously announced measures should remain if needed," it said in a statement.

The programme will be extended to February 17 and could be extended further if necessary, the government said.
