Sotomayor to follow business precedents

WASHINGTON | Tue Jul 14, 2009 11:29am EDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor said on Tuesday she would follow the law as written by Congress and would follow precedent in deciding business cases.

Answering questions at her Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing, Sotomayor said her approach has been the same, determining what the law requires, in deciding antitrust and business cases as a federal judge in New York.

She rejected suggestions that her record could be characterized as pro-business or anti-business.
