WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Friday the Democratic-controlled chamber was "on schedule" to hold a vote on healthcare reform legislation before it goes on recess in August.

"We are on our schedule to bring up the legislation before the break and we continue to be on that schedule," Pelosi told a news conference.

Pelosi said only "a very few" of America's wealthiest people were being asked to pay a new surtax to help foot the healthcare reform bill, while House Majority leader Steny Hoyer said lawmakers would push for more healthcare cost savings in the final version of the legislation.
