UPDATE 1-Hydrogenics terminates contract with American Power

July 22 (Reuters) - Hydrogenics Corp (HYG.TO), a Canadian fuel cell maker, said it terminated a deal to sell about 500 fuel cells to American Power Conversion Corp.

Hydrogenics has asked APC to pay a termination payment of about $2.1 million, the company said in a statement.

The agreement, signed in August 2006, was for over a three-year period.

Shares of the Mississauga, Ontario based-company closed at 53 Canadian cents Tuesday on the Toronto stock exchange. (Reporting by Amit Kumar in Bangalore; Editing by Maju Samuel)
