Wartsila CEO says ship unit job cuts enough for now

HELSINKI, July 22 (Reuters) - Finnish engineering firm Wartsila (WRT1V.HE) has no plans at the moment to cut more jobs at its hard-hit Ship Power unit, its chief executive said on Wednesday.

The firm said in May it would cut 400-450 jobs at the division, around one third of the total workforce, due to a sharp fall in demand, and on Wednesday it forecast the standstill in the market to last for "quite some time".

"Given the order books and the trading circumstances that prevail today, this is enough," Ole Johansson told Reuters.

Wartsila earlier reported Ship Power's second-quarter sales were up 31 percent on a year ago at 479 million euros ($680.5 million) but its order intake plunged 86 percent to 67 million as the economic downturn hit demand for new ships. (Reporting by Brett Young; Editing by Greg Mahlich)
