July 23 (Reuters) - A British soldier was killed in an explosion while on patrol in Helmand province in southern Afghanistan on Wednesday, the Ministry of Defence said.

The death brings to 188 the number of British soldiers killed in Afghanistan since the U.S.-led invasion in 2001.

On Monday, a British soldier from the force's bomb disposal group was killed in an explosion in Helmand.
