SEOUL, July 24 (Reuters) - Samsung Electronics (005930.KS), the world's No. 1 LCD maker competing closely with local rival LG Display Co Ltd (034220.KS), said it was prioritising profitability in its LCD business in 2009 over market share expansion.

LG Display recently announced plans to expand its production capacity as the liquid crystal display (LCD) industry enjoys booming demand for flat-screen televisions.

Samsung said its average TV selling prices were rising thanks to increasing sales of premium products and the trend was likely continue in the third quarter. (Reporting by Rhee So-eui; Editing by Jonathan Hopfner)
