WHO expects pandemic flu vaccines around September
GENEVA |
GENEVA (Reuters) - Vaccine makers should have H1N1 pandemic shots ready for use in just over a month, the World Health Organization said on Friday.
"Manufacturers are expected to have vaccines for use around September. A number of companies are working on the pandemic vaccine production and have different timelines," the United Nations agency said in a statement.
It said that clinical trials of vaccines for the new strain, known as swine flu, "will give a better idea of the number of doses required for a person to be immunized." Top flu vaccine makers include Sanofi-Aventis, Novartis, Baxter, GlaxoSmithKline and Solvay.
