Hoyer says Obama will get U.S. healthcare bill

WASHINGTON, July 24 | Fri Jul 24, 2009 4:58pm EDT

WASHINGTON, July 24 (Reuters) - House of Representatives Democratic leader Steny Hoyer said on Friday Congress would give U.S. President Barack Obama a sweeping health care reform to sign into law within a few months.

Speaking at a news conference following another hectic day of trying to find common ground among Democrats on legislation, Hoyer said they were making "good progress."

Hoyer said Democrats may delay the House's August recess by at least a few days to draft a bill, and House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman said his panel would meet next week to try to write its version. (Reporting by Richard Cowan and Kim Dixon)
