Funai says may buy LCD TV panels from Samsung

TOKYO, July 29 (Reuters) - Japan's Funai Electric Co (6839.OS) said it was considering buying LCD TV panels from South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co (005930.KS) as part of its strategy of expanding its supplier base.
The Nikkei business daily reported earlier that Samsung would begin supplying panels to Funai in September, starting with about 500,000 units a year. [ID:nT95089]
Funai spokesman Naoyuki Tanaka said while it was considering a procurement deal with Samsung that nothing had been decided. (Reporting by Nathan Layne)
