Actuate Names First DevShare Contributor of the Month Winner

SAN MATEO, Calif.--(Business Wire)--
Actuate Corporation (NASDAQ:ACTU), the people behind BIRT, today announced
Phillip Mayhew as the first winner of its DevShare Contributor of the Month
contest. The recently launched contest recognizes BIRT Exchange
(www.birt-exchange.com) members who actively contribute to the BIRT community.

Phillip Mayhew began working with BIRT three months ago when he encountered a
need to automate report documents. He created a BIRT web service driver to
extract data from SSL secured web services, something that the original web
service driver did not support. Phillip modified the original web service driver
and figured other people might benefit from his work as well, so he posted the
updated driver to DevShare on BIRT Exchange and his contribution was selected as
the first contest winner.

With many BIRT Exchange community members becoming experts with the technology
during their implementation of BIRT applications, the lessons they learn while
developing the applications are valuable to other developers attempting to
accomplish similar goals. Recognizing this as a call to increase collaboration,
Actuate created DevShare on BIRT Exchange where developers can share the lessons
they have learned in the form of quick-tips, example code, report designs,
technical blog posts, online articles, tutorials, or anything else they find
helpful while developing their applications.
