Long-Awaited 'Road to Financial Reformation' by Henry Kaufman Set for August
10 Publication by Wiley
'Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.' -- George
Santayana.
NEW YORK, July 30 /PRNewswire/ -- To the flood of dense, often contradictory
books about the current financial crisis, John A. Wiley & Sons now brings an
eagerly-awaited, clearly-written volume by the internationally renowned
economist, Dr. Henry Kaufman, who long warned about, and forecast, today's
global economic quagmire.
On August 10, Wiley will publish The Road to Financial Reformation, a
fact-packed volume that reviews the causes of financial meltdowns during the
past half century before offering a cogent and compelling analysis of today's
upended financial markets and what must be done to effect realistic reforms
going forward.
Employing an historical perspective with arguments a layman can follow, the
noted economist explains the risks, pitfalls, rewards, and foibles of
financial markets and provides readers with a range of practical, essential
remedies for a new era of financial probity and responsibility in a globalized
world.
Dr. Kaufman offers a set of rules, regulations, and recommendations that will
enable financial institutions to balance entrepreneurial drive with meaningful
fiduciary responsibilities. He argues, however, that there will be no quick
fix. Genuine recovery, for an economy still hobbled by numerous underlying
constraints, will not come very quickly and it will not be easy.
Former U.S. Senator and presidential candidate Bill Bradley calls The Road To
Financial Reformation "a devastating critique of our troubled financial system
with clear explanations of how we got there here and what we must do to get
our economy back on track."
Paul A. Volcker, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board and now Chairman
of the new Economic Recovery Advisory Board, adds: "Drawing in part on earlier
writings, he lays out what has gone wrong and why. Dr. Kaufman, in The Road
to Financial Reformation, does not shrink from setting guidelines for
re-building a stronger, safer, and more productive global financial
marketplace. They need careful thought from practitioners and officials
alike."
