                          Transfer of Treasury Shares                          

Spectris plc announces that on 30 July 2009, the following ordinary shares have
been transferred from treasury stock for the purposes of employee share option
allotments under the Spectris 1999 Executive Share Option Scheme:

1,538 shares at 395.731 pence per share

Following the above transfer, the total number of Spectris plc ordinary shares
in issue (excluding the total of 9,599,926 ordinary shares now held in
treasury) is 115,405,197.
