Continuing Its Long Standing Relationship with the Ultimate Action Sports Franchise SportsMEDIA Aims to Maximize Every Viewer`s Experience DURHAM, N.C.--(Business Wire)-- Sports fans are gearing up for the Super-Bowl of action sports as X Games 15 kicks off in Los Angeles July 30 - August 2. As always fans are looking to the X-Games to produce an entertaining display of skills and thrills like nothing else in the world. For fifteen years the X Games have provided the ultimate forum and showcase for the best in action sports and the best performances of action sports athletes and SportsMEDIA Technology Corporation has been with ESPN every step of the way. Whether a fan is watching the action live on-site or live on television, SportsMEDIA is behind the scenes playing a significant role in ensuring that each X Games fan gets the most out of their experience. When the X Games was still in its initial concept phase, ESPN hired SportsMEDIA, an expert in designing electronic sports scoring systems and real-time television graphics display systems, to consult with the ESPN team developing and defining the X Games franchise. "It may be hard to imagine now, but at that time, many of the sports under consideration for inclusion in the original X Games had never been held as competitions, many lacked scoring methods and philosophies, many had no sanctioning leagues, and none had ever been presented on live television," said Gerard J. Hall, president of SportsMEDIA. "Designing an electronic scoring system with a real-time graphics interface to live television for any established and mature sport, like golf or automobile racing for example, is a challenge in itself. With X Games we had to design and define the rules of a sport first, and then define and design a TV- friendly format consistent with ESPN`s X Games philosophy for how that sport should be staged and presented. And, of course, once we completed this process for one X Games sport, we had to repeat it 27 times!" Today, as it has for all 15 X Games, SportsMEDIA remains the official timing and scoring company, the official real-time scoring and information infrastructure company, and the official real-time data and graphics publishing and presentation company for the X Games. One of the biggest production advantages to ESPN of having SportsMEDIA be the one vendor handling all the data generation systems and all the data publication systems at the X Games, is that SportsMEDIA can control and ensure that all data publishing channels receive and publish live scoring data simultaneously. SportsMEDIA`s X Games systems ensure that the television viewer, the athlete, the announcer, the live graphics display devices, and the stadium display boards all receive and publish the data at the same time. This creates a very satisfying group reaction experience. "SportsMEDIA is instrumental in the overall execution of the X Games for ESPN. Their technology and understanding of what it takes to put on a live broadcast and event is an asset to our operation and production teams," said Phil Orlins, Coordinating Producer, ESPN Productions. "We are glad to have them on board and look forward to putting on a spectacular X Games 15." Today, SportsMEDIA is the sole provider to X Games of: * Official electronic timing and scoring systems * Live real- time scoring content organization and distribution * CG Graphics interface systems * Keyable graphics systems * Event venue scoreboard and video board display systems * Event venue count down clocks * Television and event talent teleprompting systems * Real-time live scoring feeds SportsMEDIA will have more than 25 professionals on-site overseeing this year`s events. Duties include installing and building out all of the timing, scoring and judge systems, bringing all of the data collection systems into a central scoring hub database, installing and building out all of the data presentation channels, and operating all real-time data and graphics systems throughout the event.
