philanthropic campaign
NEW YORK--(Business Wire)--
Proyecto Esperanza, or "Project Hope," is DIRECTV Más` philanthropic campaign
designed to assist orphaned children throughout Latin America and represents the
children`s hope for a better tomorrow. Less than one percent of the orphaned
children in Latin America and the Caribbean are adopted, making them the most in
need of education and resources.

The campaign, which began in June in the Dominican Republic, has come to New
York City in full force. On Thursday, July 30, 2009, at Sounds of Brazil on West
Houston, DIRECTV Más` will host, "Domino Effect", a fundraiser benefiting The
Orphaned Starfish Foundation, whose mission is dedicated to working with orphans
and disadvantaged children throughout Latin America.

"The work of The Orphaned Starfish Foundation is truly admirable," said John De
Armas, vice president, WorldDirect. "We are honored to be a part of a cause that
will aid the lives of children, in a region that both our customers and our
programmers care very much about. It is important to spread the word so that
every child has the opportunity to succeed."

"We are grateful and thrilled for the opportunity to work together with DIRECTV
Más," said Andrew Stein, chairman and president of The Orphaned Starfish
Foundation. "They are helping us facilitate the work that will allow us to
continue to expand our ability to touch the lives of so many young people who
desperately need our help and support."

Headlining the event will be Latin Superstar, Johnny Ventura, a great supporter
of the DIRECTV Más` campaign. He will be performing his classics for the crowd
that will include representatives of the Tri-State area`s major corporations,
media outlets and community leaders. Guests are invited to play a game of
dominos, dine and dance the night away.

In addition to ticket sales, there will be a silent auction and raffle aimed at
generating additional funds for The Orphaned Starfish Foundation.

DIRECTV Más is running a television campaign starring Latin superstar Charytin
and giving people around the country an opportunity to sign up for DIRECTV Más
through a dedicated telephone number and support The Orphaned Starfish
Foundation.

About The Orphaned Starfish Foundation

The Orphaned Starfish Foundation was founded on the belief that education is
supremely important and the most likely path out of the poverty trap. When
children are educated, they tend to grow up to be more productive. When people
are more productive, they tend to earn more income. And when people earn more
income, they have a better chance to escape or avoid poverty. Since its
inception, the foundation has funded the construction and operation of
vocational training facilities in several orphanages and homes for disadvantaged
children in Latin America, including funding for furnishings, required
equipment, trainer salaries, and job placement service. The foundation is a
completely volunteer run organization and currently supports seventeen projects
in Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and
Panama. For more information visit www.orphanedstarfish.org
