Texas on Top of Cancer Research: Dallas Regional Chamber Hosts Forum on New $3
Billion Fund

DALLAS, July 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- When Texas voters approved a ballot
measure to create the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas
(CPRIT), they took a major step forward in making Texas a hub for cancer
research activity. Texas now has a $3 billion fund investing in cutting-edge,
Texas-based research and commercialization projects aimed at finding cures and
preventing cancer.

"It is a privilege for me to be part of CPRIT and to have a role in the
historic part Texas will play in the fight against cancer," said William
Gimson, Executive Director of CPRIT. "The CPRIT team promises the people of
Texas that we will be good stewards of the public's trust by funding only the
best scientific research and prevention activities, measuring what we do and
reporting back regularly on our progress."

In his first speaking engagement in North Texas, Gimson will deliver the
keynote address at the Dallas Regional Chamber's "Texas on Top of Cancer
Research Forum" August 26. This breakfast forum will bring together life
science and technology executives to discuss political and industry trends in
the cancer research landscape. A panel discussion on "Trends in Funding,
Federal Programs and the Future" will feature nationally recognized industry
experts.

How does cancer affect North Texas?

-- Over 97,000 new cancer cases arose in Texas in 2008
-- North Texas accounted for almost one quarter of these cases

-- North Texas will see a 21% increase in its cancer patient population
over the next five years
