Sterling hits 4-week high vs euro after UK housing data

LONDON, July 30 (Reuters) - Sterling extended gains on Thursday, hitting a four-week high against the euro after figures showing a rise in UK house prices prompted traders to flock to the currency.

The euro EURGBP=R fell 0.6 percent on the day to 85.24 pence according to Reuters data, its lowest level since early July.

Figures from the UK's Nationwide Building Society on Thursday showed British house prices rose 1.3 percent this month, the fourth increase in five months [ID:nLAG003611].
