Steffen breaks own record to win 100 freestyle

ROME (Reuters) - Germany's Britta Steffen smashed her own world record to win gold in the women's 100 meters freestyle at the world championships on Friday.

Steffen swam 52.07 seconds to beat the mark of 52.22 she set during the 4x100 relay. Britain's Fran Halsall was second with Libby Trickett of Australia third.
