ZURICH, Aug 3 (Reuters) - Privately owned Nycomed [NYCMD.UL] is to buy a portfolio of 20 branded generic products in a number of Central and Eastern European countries from French drugmaker Sanofi-Aventis (SASY.PA), the Swiss-based group said on Monday.

Nycomed will buy the portfolio from Sanofi and Zentiva in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary, Estonia and Bulgaria.

The products had a total annual turnover of 17 million euros ($24.22 million) and Nycomed will take over production in the coming years.

Both parties agreed not to disclose further details on the deal.

"These brands will complement our local portfolios very well. Especially in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, this will significantly strengthen our position in Primary Care," Nycomed said in a statement.

Nycomed, which is looking for a stock market listing, had sales of 3.4 billion euros in 2008. Its portfolio focuses on branded medicines in gastroenterology, respiratory and inflammatory diseases, pain, osteoporosis and tissue management.
