W.House: Clunkers program ends without Senate action

WASHINGTON | Mon Aug 3, 2009 1:44pm EDT

WASHINGTON Aug 3 (Reuters) - The popular "cash-for-clunkers" program will have to stop if the U.S. Senate does not agree to increase funding for it this week, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said on Monday.

The program allows consumers to get credit towards buying a new car if they turn in older, less fuel-efficient vehicles.
