UPDATE 1-Tessera Q2 tops Street; sees Q3 revenue above view

Aug 4 (Reuters) - Chip technology developer Tessera Technologies Inc (TSRA.O) reported a quarterly profit that topped market estimates as royalty and licensing fees rose, and it forecast better-than-expected third-quarter revenue.
Tessera's second-quarter profit surged to $11.8 million, or 24 cents per share, from $84,000, or breakeven per share, a year earlier.
Revenue rose 11 percent to $62.3 million. Royalty and licensing fees rose 20 percent to $59.8 million.
Analysts were expecting a profit of 15 cents a share on revenue of $60 million, according to Reuters Estimates.
For the third quarter, the company expects revenue of $60 million to $62 million. Analysts were expecting $56.8 million.
Shares of the company closed at $28.55 Tuesday on Nasdaq.
