(Reuters) - Following are security developments in Afghanistan at 3 a.m. EDT on Wednesday:

HERAT - A district security official who was targeted by a Taliban bomb in Herat city, west Afghanistan, on Monday, died of his wounds at a military hospital in Kandahar, south Afghanistan, said Samanwar Noorkhan Nikzhad, a spokesman for Herat's security directorate. The death raised the toll from the incident to 13.

KANDAHAR - Four members of one family were killed in a foreign forces air strike in Arghandab district in southern Kandahar province late on Tuesday, villagers said, after bringing the bodies to the provincial capital to show officials. NATO-led troops said they were checking the report.
