* Card will be rival to Air Canada rewards card

* More details on card out later this year

VANCOUVER, British Columbia Aug 5 (Reuters) - WestJet Airlines Ltd (WJA.TO) said on Wednesday it has teamed up with Royal Bank of Canada (RY.TO) and MasterCard Inc (MA.N) for the upcoming launch of its new travel rewards credit card.

More details on the new co-branded card, which will rival Air Canada's (ACa.TO) successful Aerogold card, will be unveiled this fall, WestJet said in a brief statement.

Budget carrier WestJet, Canada's No.2 airline, was not immediately available for comment.

Genuity Capital Markets analyst David Tyerman said the loyalty card was another prong to WestJet's strategy, along with its recent code-share agreement with Air France-KLM (AIRF.PA) and a planned new reservation system, to lure more customers.

"All these things are supposed to go together to build a better product for the customer and a stronger product for WestJet," Tyerman told Reuters. (Reporting by Nicole Mordant; editing by Rob Wilson)
