HOUSTON Aug 6 (Reuters) - A small Thursday afternoon fire at Exxon Mobil Corp's giant Baytown, Texas, complex was in the chemical plant and not the adjoining refinery, according to a trade source.

The 572,500-barrel per day (bpd) refinery's units were operational after a Thursday afternoon power surge that triggered the fire, according to and Exxon spokeswoman.

The refinery units were returning to normal operations and flaring as needed. (Reporting by Janet McGurty and Erwin Seba; Editing by David Gregorio)
