Germany's SAP considering offer for Tibco -report

FRANKFURT | Sat Aug 8, 2009 11:48am EDT

FRANKFURT Aug 8 (Reuters) - German software maker SAP (SAPG.DE) is considering bidding for US software firm Tibco (TIBX.O), German weekly Wirtschaftwoche reported on Saturday, citing a source close to talks between the two companies.

SAP declined to comment on the report.

The weekly cited its source as saying SAP and Tibco are in "very advanced talks" but that the outcome was not yet certain.

Tibco specializes in middleware products aimed at integrating programmes from various software providers.

As early as the end of 2008, Tibco had already presented its products to SAP management at its headquarters in Walldorf, the magazine said.

It said that an initial concept of selling Tibco products through SAP marketing channels then later changed to include a possible takeover offer.
