BEIJING (Reuters) - An Afghan plane flying to the capital of China's western Xinjiang region has received a bomb threat, the official Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday.

Aviation authorities have ordered the airport in the capital, Urumqi, to prevent the plane from landing, Xinhua said.

Earlier, Xinhua had reported that the incident was a hijacking. The latest report was unclear whether the plane was hijacked, where it was, and how the bomb threat was made.

"Armed police and emergency vehicles, however, have rushed to the airport for emergency response," the latest report said.
