NEW YORK Aug 9 (Reuters) - Evercore Partners (EVR.N) said on Sunday Stephen CuUnjieng has joined the boutique investment bank as a senior adviser based in Asia.

CuUnjieng joined the firm from Macquarie Group Ltd (MQG.AX), where he was most recently a vice chairman of the ASEAN region. He will continue to focus on advising leading companies in that region.

Evercore said CuUnjieng's appointment complements the firm's joint venture with Citic Securities International Partners, which is focused on China, and its strategic alliance with Mizuho Securities 8606.T in Japan.

"Stephen is a highly respected and experienced investment banker with deep relationships throughout the ASEAN region," Ralph Schlosstein, president and chief executive of Evercore, said in a statement.

"The addition of Stephen reinforces our commitment to building our presence in Asia and providing world class advice to our clients there," Schlosstein added.

Prior to joining Macquarie, CuUnjieng was Managing Director at Merrill Lynch Asia Pacific Limited. (Reporting by Jui Chakravorty Das; Editing by Marguerita Choy)
