WASHINGTON Aug 12 (Reuters) - The U.S. Air Force has awarded privately held Hawker Beechcraft Corp a $170.4 million contract for seven T-6A Texan II military training aircraft and related ground-based systems and logistics support for the Iraqi Air Force, the U.S. Defense Department said on Wednesday.

Iraq has asked about buying as many as 36 such aircraft and associated hardware, the Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency told Congress in December 2008.
