MONTGOMERY, Ala. Aug 12 (Reuters) - Alabama's House of Representatives approved an occupational tax for debt-ridden Jefferson County on Wednesday to provide a much-needed injection of cash.

The tax, which has contributed about $78 million to county coffers in the past, still needs to be approved by the state senate. A vote there will be held on Friday. (Reporting by Verna Gates, editing by Jim Loney)
