"Witch," "Obsessed" top video charts
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Family-friendly "Race to Witch Mountain" took the No. 1 spot on the national home video sales chart during the week ended August 9, while the stalker-themed thriller "Obsessed" topped the rental chart.
"Witch Mountain," a reimagining of 1975's "Escape to Witch Mountain" that grossed $67.2 million during its theatrical run earlier this year, easily took the sales crown during its first week in stores. "Obsessed" ranked second on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart.
But in rental stores, the order was reversed, with "Obsessed" topping Home Media Magazine's weekly rental rankings and "Witch Mountain" -- which stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson -- in the No. 2 spot.
The films had similar box-office tallies. "Obsessed," starring Beyonce Knowles, Idris Elba and Ali Larter, grossed $68.3 million in U.S. theaters.
"Fast & Furious," the previous week's top seller and renter, slipped to No. 3 on both charts. But on the Nielsen VideoScan Blu-ray Disc chart, the action sequel remained on top for the second consecutive week, with "Witch Mountain" debuting at No. 2 and "Obsessed" at No. 4, behind "Watchmen."
