CALGARY, Alberta Aug 13 (Reuters) - Royal Dutch Shell (RDSa.L) reported its 98,000 barrel a day refinery and 155,000 barrel a day oil sands upgrader near Edmonton, Alberta, were flaring due to unspecified "process issues" on Wednesday, according to a message on a community hotline.

However, a spokeswoman from the oil major's London office declined to say on Thursday if the problems had any impact on production of fuel from the refinery or synthetic crude oil from the upgrader, citing a policy not to comment on day-to-day operations.

On Wednesday, Suncor Energy Inc (SU.TO), which also runs a refinery in the region, reported a brief outage caused by a third-party hydrogen supplier's production problems. (Reporting by Jeffrey Jones; editing by Peter Galloway)
