Suncor Edmonton refinery restarting after outage

CALGARY, Alberta Aug 13 (Reuters) - Suncor Energy Inc (SU.TO) is restarting its 135,000 barrel a day Edmonton, Alberta, refinery after a brief outage prompted by a hydrogen supplier's production problems, a spokeswoman said on Thursday.

The refinery, which was owned by Petro-Canada before Suncor's takeover of PetroCan at the start of this month, underwent a controlled shutdown of some units on Wednesday when the hydrogen supply was cut off and will take some time before production is back to normal, spokeswoman Sneh Seetal said.

"Our third-party supplier was able to restart its hydrogen production plant overnight, and so the refinery is now in the process of restarting," Seetal said. She did not give the volume of production that was affected.

The company is still working to replenish its Alberta retail network due to an outage at the plant in July, which caused gasoline shortages, she said. (Reporting by Jeffrey Jones; editing by Peter Galloway)
