Set for October 20 - 23, 2009



WASHINGTON, Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of the United States' continuing
effort to enhance security and combat terrorism here, in military operations
abroad and among allied nations, several U.S. Government departments and
agencies are sponsoring the Explosives Detection 2009 Symposium and Workshop.
It will be held in San Diego, CA, during October 20 -- 23, 2009.

The international event will provide a venue for U.S. and allied governments,
academia and industry to share information, advance technology, develop
partnerships, provide first responder training and demonstrate capabilities in
explosives detection. Attendees will include first responders, government
sponsors, and policy- and standards-setting organizations from federal, state
and local governments, as well as military agencies.

The sponsors are the Department of Defense Combating Terrorism Technical
Support Office (CTTSO); the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Department of
State; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Transportation
Security Administration's Office of Security Technology; and Department of
Homeland Security's Directorate for Science and Technology.

The four-day event will bring together a diverse group of scientists, industry
professionals, academics, and end-users for discussions and interaction
covering a wide range of disciplines within the field of explosives detection.
Among attendees and exhibitors will be some of the world's foremost
authorities on the science, technology and employment of detection equipment
and systems for dealing with explosives used in terrorism and other criminal
activities.

Included among training opportunities at the event will be the Federal Bureau
of Investigation National Improvised Explosives Familiarization Training
Course; Department of Justice-certified course on Incident Response to
Terrorist Bombings; Department of Homeland Security-certified course on
Prevention and Response to Suicide Bombings Incidents; and Department of
Homeland Security certified-course on Understanding and Planning for School
Bomb Incidents.
