Bruce Momjian Recognized as 'Database Jedi Master' at the Recently Held
O'Reilly Open Source Convention, OSCON 2009
WESTFORD, Mass., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- EnterpriseDB, the leading
enterprise-class open source database company, today announced that its Senior
Database Architect Bruce Momjian, a recognized leader of the PostgreSQL open
source community, was presented with an award for his work on PostgreSQL.
Momjian was selected from the hundreds of nominations received, and was
conferred the status of 'Database Jedi Master' by the Google-O'Reilly Open
Source Award committee. The award is presented to individuals for dedication,
innovation, leadership and outstanding contribution to open source.
"This award isn't just for me - it belongs to the entire Postgres community,"
said Momjian. "The developer community supporting PostgreSQL is the
technology's greatest strength and through a constant process of reviewing,
improving and refining code, this community has created the world's most
advanced open source database."
In addition to his role as Senior Database Architect at EnterpriseDB, Momjian
is a member of the Postgres Core Team and is also a Postgres Committer, one of
the select few with the authority to permit changes to the official Postgres
code base. He is a co-founder of the PostgreSQL Global Development Group and
has worked on Postgres since 1996. Bruce is also the author of PostgreSQL:
Introduction and Concepts, published by Addison-Wesley.
EnterpriseDB helps organizations harness the power and economic advantages of
the PostgreSQL open source database safely and securely, with minimal
disruption to existing operations -- a critical factor for enterprise database
users. EnterpriseDB's high-performance database solutions are used by leading
brands such as FTD, Sony Online Entertainment, Info USA, and EPBS. In
addition, earlier this year, the company announced a special program aimed at
making it easier for organizations to migrate from Oracle to its open source
database platform. The Oracle Migration Assessment Program is designed to aid
the thousands of companies locked into the Oracle database and related
products who face a constant stream of increases from the vendor.
