                          Transfer of Treasury Shares                          

Spectris plc announces that on 17 August 2009, the following ordinary shares
have been transferred from treasury stock for the purposes of employee share
option allotments under the Spectris 1996 Executive Share Scheme:

1,000 shares at 357.5 pence per share

1,500 shares at 525 pence per share

Following the above transfer, the total number of Spectris plc ordinary shares
in issue (excluding the total of 9,595,888 ordinary shares now held in
treasury) is 115,409,235.
