News Conference Scheduled to Announce the Dismantling of One of the Largest
Organized Home Burglary Rings in North Carolina History



A news conference has been scheduled to announce the federal indictments of at
least nine (9) defendants that were engaged in a highly organized home
burglary ring for several years in both North and South Carolina. This
criminal enterprise consists of mostly multi-convicted felons that targeted
homes in the North Carolina counties of Stanly, Cabarrus, Anson, Rowan,
Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Davidson, Mecklenburg and Union, and the counties
of York and Marlboro in South Carolina. Hundreds of home burglaries are
attributed to this gang where hundreds of thousands of dollars of personal
property was stolen, to include over 125 firearms. The members of this crime
ring utilized sophisticated fixed and mobile surveillance and operated in
organized teams with team leaders to identify and burglarize their targeted
homes. Over ten (10) law enforcement agencies along with ATF conducted an
unprecedented joint investigation covering a massive geographical area with
multiple jurisdictions to perfect the charges on these defendants.

WHO:  Representatives from the following agencies will address the public and
answer questions regarding their respective roles in the investigation:
Sheriff's Offices from the North Carolina counties of Stanly, Cabarrus, Anson,
Rowan, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Davidson, Union and Randolph, the
Albemarle Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and
Explosives (ATF). 

WHAT:  A news conference will be held to identify the members of the criminal
enterprise, the charges and the roles of the individual law enforcement
agencies. A photographic matrix link chart of the defendant's criminal
relationship along with over 125 recovered firearms will be displayed. A copy
of the federal indictment will be distributed to the media. 

WHEN: Thursday, August 20, 2009. The set up for the media will begin at 1:30
p.m. with the news conference beginning promptly at 2:00 p.m.
