WARMINSTER, PA, Aug 17 (MARKET WIRE) --
W. Atlee Burpee & Co., America's most-trusted plant and seed purveyor,
will celebrate the finale of the biggest vegetable gardening renaissance
since World War II during the first ever Burpee Harvest Festival. The
event is open to the public, and will take place at Burpee's Fordhook
Farm in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, on Friday, August 21st and Saturday,
August 22nd from 10 am to 4 pm -- rain or shine. For event details,
please visit http://www.burpee.com.

"The Harvest Festival is both a
celebration and a platform for education," says Burpee's chairman George
Ball. "As folks across the country begin to harvest, we want to offer
them inspirational tips for using their garden bounty in new recipes as
well as provide them with practical information on upcoming fall garden
tasks."

Calling it Burpee's biggest event of the season, Ball says that the two
day festival will include an array of activities designed to inspire and
inform visitors of all ages.

Some of the activities Burpee has arranged for visitors include a cooking
demonstration, guided garden tours, a plant and seed sale, a coloring
contest for children and an on-site farmer's market featuring locally
grown produce. Laura Schenone, nationally acclaimed cookbook author, will
be the featured speaker during the event offering lectures on both Friday
and Saturday on "Discovering the Power of the Vegetable Garden -- in the
Kitchen, in History and in Daily Life."

Ball says that gardeners interested in learning more about preparing their
garden for fall or growing cool season vegetables, can obtain expert
advice from Burpee horticulturalists during gardening workshops held
throughout the day on Friday and Saturday.

"We expect cool weather vegetable gardening to be of utmost interest this
year," says Ball. "During the workshop, our horticulturalists will show
visitors how to extend the growing season by selecting the right cool
weather varieties and how to properly prepare the garden for cool season
growing."

Perhaps most exciting for visitors according to Ball, will be the
opportunity to get a sneak peak at Burpee's flowers and vegetables
varieties growing in the test and display gardens. "It's a rare
opportunity," Ball says, "to see what could be growing in your garden next
spring and summer."

There is a daily $5 admission fee for the event. Admission for children is
free. Tickets for Laura Schenone's lecture are $20.
