Gold Canyon Closes Strategic Investment With Jipangu Inc. of Japan

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, Aug 17 (MARKET WIRE) --
Gold Canyon Resources Inc. (TSX VENTURE: GCU)(PINK SHEETS: GDCRF) ("Gold
Canyon" or "the Company") is pleased to announce the closing of its
previously announced strategic investment by Jipangu Inc. ("Jipangu"),
the only gold mining company in Japan, in Gold Canyon. In consideration
of a payment by Jipangu to Gold Canyon in the amount of C$400,000, the
Company has issued 2,500,000 common shares from treasury and has granted
Jipangu certain rights of first refusal with respect to any sale, grant
or other disposition of Gold Canyon's interest in the Springpole Gold
Project in the Red Lake Mining District of Ontario, Canada or any future
financing of the Company for a period of one year from the closing of the
investment. Net proceeds of the transaction will be used for additional
work on Gold Canyon's Springpole Gold Project.
Common shares issued to Jipangu will be subject to a hold period expiring
on December 18, 2009 in accordance with the rules and policies of the TSX
Venture Exchange and applicable Canadian securities laws.
