WARSAW Aug 17 (Reuters) - Polish copper miner KGHM KGHM.WA will not be able to reach a previous goal of boosting production to 700,000 tonnes annually by 2010, its chief executive officer said on Monday.

"The target of raising production to 700,000 tonnes annually in 2010 is unrealistic," Herbert Wirth told reporters.

He also said that KGHM, which expects to produce more than 500,000 tonnes of copper in 2009, will buy a stake in a mining project this year, most likely in the United States. (Reporting by Adrian Krajewski, writing by Chris Borowski; Editing by Jon Loades-Carter)
