PRECIOUS-Gold mostly flat after New York rally

 TOKYO, Aug 19 (Reuters) - Gold was largely unchanged on
Wednesday after bouncing back the previous day, boosted by the
dollar's decline against the euro as the precious metal took on
its traditional role as a currency hedge.
 FUNDAMENTALS
 * Gold XAU= stood at $937.80 per ounce at 2342 GMT Tuesday,
up 0.1 percent from New York's notional close of $937.30.
 * U.S. gold futures for December delivery GCZ9 were $940.70
per ounce, up 0.2 percent.
 * The world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, the
SPDR Gold Trust (GLD), said its holdings stood at 1,065.49 tonnes
as of Aug. 18, steady from the previous business day. [GOL/SPDR]
 MARKET NEWS
 * The dollar and yen fell on Tuesday after a strong report on
German investor sentiment and gains in stock markets worldwide
eroded safe-haven demand for the two currencies. [USD/]
 * U.S. stocks rose on Tuesday, rebounding after sharp losses
in the previous session, as better-than-expected results from big
retailers encouraged investors to get back into the market. [.N]
 * U.S. crude CLc1 rose more than 3 percent to top $70 a
barrel on Tuesday as stronger-than-expected corporate earnings
results lifted equities and boosted optimism about the economy.
