Toyota to buy batteries for hybrid cars from Sanyo

TOKYO Aug 19 (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T), the world's largest carmaker, will buy batteries for its hybrid cars from Sanyo Electric 6764.T, according to a source familiar with the matter.

It will start buying the batteries in 2011 at a rate of 10,000 a year, the source said.

Japanese electronics giant Panasonic Corp (6752.T) has agreed to buy a majority stake in Sanyo, the world's largest maker of rechargeable batteries.
