NBC Sports in deal with US figure skating

CHICAGO Aug 27 (Reuters) - General Electric Co's (GE.N) NBC Sports on Thursday announced a deal extending its right to air the biggest U.S. figure skating events through the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but a source familiar with the talks, who asked not to be identified, said it is a revenue-sharing agreement similar to what is already in place between NBC Sports and the U.S. sports' governing body.

The deal includes rebroadcasts and coverage by Universal Sports, a TV network owned by NBC Sports and private equity firm Intermedia Partners that is available in more than 56 million homes.

Under the deal, NBC Sports, which has broadcast the Summer Olympics since 1988 and Winter Olympics since 2002, will offer live coverage of the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and the Skate America competition. (Reporting by Ben Klayman, editing by Leslie Gevirtz)
