Nigeria loses 80 LNG cargoes with plant shutdown

ABUJA | Thu Aug 27, 2009 8:13am EDT

ABUJA Aug 27 (Reuters) - Nigeria has lost the equivalent of 80 liquefied natural gas cargoes, each worth around $15 million, since the shutdown of Royal Dutch Shell's (RDSa.L) Soku gas plant last November, an industry source said on Thursday.

Nigeria LNG Limited, which supplies 10 percent of world liquefied natural gas, has been operating at only 50 percent capacity since the feeder plant closed, the source said.

Shell shut the gas plant in southern Nigeria to repair pipelines that were illegally tapped into by thieves.
