ArcelorMittal S.Africa to raise some prices in Oct

JOHANNESBURG Aug 31 (Reuters) - ArcelorMittal South Africa (ACLJ.J), the unit of the world's top steel maker, said on Monday it would raise prices for flat steel products from October, but leave those for long steel unchanged.

Prices for flat steel will increase by between 2 and 4 percent, it said in a statement.

"International steel prices are continuing to pick up momentum, but these gains are somewhat offset by the continued strong performance of the rand against the U.S. dollar," it said.

The company has been raising prices gradually since the middle of the year, after it had cut them by over 60 percent since the start of the economic slump in September last year.

Prices were increased by between 3-5 percent in July and August, but left mostly unchanged in September. (Reporting by Agnieszka Flak)
