UPDATE 2-LDK strikes another solar project deal in China
* To develop projects with China's Suqian city
* Says agreed to develop up to 300 MW of PV projects (Updates shares, adds details on deal and LOS ANGELES dateline)
LOS ANGELES Aug 31 (Reuters) - LDK Solar Co Ltd (LDK.N) said on Monday it agreed with the Chinese city of Suqian to develop up to 300 megawatts (MW) of solar projects by 2015.
The deal follows LDK Solar's announcement last week that it was partnering with Yancheng city to build up to 500 MW of photovoltaic solar power projects over the next five years. [ID:nN25229484]
The news comes as China -- the world's top greenhouse gas polluter -- tries to catch up in a global race to find alternatives to fossil fuels. Last month, the country launched a long-awaited plan to offer subsidies for large solar power projects.
Since China announced the incentive, domestic solar power producers, including Suntech Power Holdings Co Ltd (STP.N) and ReneSola Ltd SOLA.L have announced plans to build big solar power plants in China.
LDK's shares were down 3.5 percent at $8.92 at miday on the New York Stock Exchange, with many solar stocks down in a weak market.
LDK Solar, which makes wafers for manufacturing solar cells, posted a wider-than-expected net loss in the second quarter after taking a large inventory writedown and forecast third-quarter revenue would fall below Wall Street estimates.
